Anyways, back to The Lovely Bones, the book. Taking place in the 70's, we get to know Susie Salmon, a 14-year-old girl living in a quiet town in Pennsylvania. She has two younger siblings, Lindsey, and little Buckley. She loves photography, and has a crush on the new boy at school, Ray Singh.

But she is forced to leave all this behind when she is murdered on December 6th, 1973. Susie finds herself in her little piece of heaven, able to look down upon her family. She watches as her father goes mad looking for her killer, and her mother slowly disconnects from him. And then there's Ruth, the teenager who senses the dead in ways others don't. Ray, coping, finds solace in her friendship.

This is a sad and deep novel, dealing with death and how we overcome our grief. I couldn't put it down, and the movie was great, too! This is Alice Sebold's second book.
